New Print Exhibition Explores Movement, Mark-Making, and Meaning
A forthcoming skateboard print exhibition invites audiences to reconsider skateboarding not simply as sport or subculture, but as a form of writing—an embodied system of inscription that produces meaning through movement, surface, and interaction with the built environment.
This innovative show presents a series of skateboard deck prints displayed across window spaces, transforming the urban façade into a living gallery. Each printed board operates as both object and trace: a record of gesture, friction, and contact, echoing the marks left by skateboarding itself within the city.
At the conceptual core of the exhibition is the Derridean notion of écriture—writing understood not as language alone, but as a broader system of inscription that precedes and exceeds it. In this sense, skateboarding is reframed as a form of writing upon the environment: ledges, rails, and pavements become surfaces of text, continuously inscribed through practice. Meaning emerges not as fixed or stable, but as something produced through repetition, difference, and embodied interaction.
Alongside the exhibition, a series of youth-focused workshops will offer participants the opportunity to design and print their own skateboard decks. These sessions aim to open up the creative and conceptual processes behind the work, encouraging young people to engage with skateboarding as both a physical and artistic language. Participants will explore printmaking techniques while reflecting on how their own movements, identities, and environments can be translated into visual form.
By bringing together printmaking, philosophy, and skate culture, the exhibition creates a space where making, thinking, and doing intersect. It invites viewers to see the city not just as a backdrop, but as a dynamic surface of inscription—one that is constantly being written and rewritten.
